Shireen Abu Akleh Funeral, Burial, Memorial Service

Shireen Abu Akleh was a Palestinian-American journalist who worked as a reporter for the Arabic-language channel of Al Jazeera for 25 years.

She was a household name across the Middle East for her decades of reporting in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.

She was shot and killed on May 11, 2022, while covering an Israel Defense Forces raid on the West Bank city of Jenin.

Abu Akleh was 51 years old, born on May 3, 1971, in Jerusalem.

Shireen Abu Akleh Funeral, Memorial Service

Funeral service for the slain Al Jazeera journalist will take place at the presidential compound in Ramallah.

It is expected to begin shortly in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, a day after she was killed by Israeli forces.

Abu Akleh’s body left at the Istishari Hospital in the occupied West Bank city on Thursday morning and is now in the Palestine Authority’s (PA) Presidential compound, in which the president Mahmoud Abbas will honor her and bid her farewell.

A military ceremony will be held in honor of Abu Akleh at the compound.

After the funeral, Abu Akleh’s body will be carried by a vehicle on a bus to St Louis French Hospital in Sheikh Jarrah, in occupied East Jerusalem, where her family lives.

Journalists and mourners began assembling early on Thursday morning at the hospital for preparations for the funeral.

Shireen Abu Akleh Burial

Abu Akleh’s burial is expected to take place on Friday, in the occupied East Jerusalem.

On Wednesday, Abu Akleh received a lot of honors in several Palestinian cities.

These included Jenin, Nablus and Ramallah.

Her body was also brought to the city. There were several protests, and hundreds of Palestinians attended.
