Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan: Son Of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the President of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, and the supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces from 2004 to 2022.

He was also the Chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council from the late 1980s.

As the crown prince, Khalifa was responsible for some aspects of the presidency from the late 1990s until his father Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s health problems.

He succeeded his father as the emir in Abu Dhabi on the 2nd of November 2004, and the presidency of the United Arab Emirates on the following day.

He was one of the most wealthy monarchs in the world during his reign. He was the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which managed $875 billion of assets.

This is the largest asset management organization by a head of state of a country. The Al Nahyan family collectively is thought to have a fortune worth $150 billion.

On 4 January 2010, the world’s tallest man-made structure, originally known as Burj Dubai, was renamed the Burj Khalifa in his honor, after Abu Dhabi gave Dubai $10 billion to help pay off debts. Forbes included Khalifa on its 2018 list of the most powerful people in the world.

Khalifa suffered a stroke in January 2014. He was then stabilized after the surgery. Khalifa then took a lower profile role in state affairs, but still retained his ceremonial presidency powers.

His half-brother Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan handled public affairs of state and day to day decision-making for the Emirate.

Born on September 7, 1948, in Qasr AlMuwaiji, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa died on May 13, 2022, at the age of 73.

Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan is an Emirati military officer, businessman, and member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, the Al Nahyans.

He is the son of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Shamsa bint Suhail Al Mazrouei.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in political and administrative sciences, which he received from Emirates University.

He also graduated from Zayed bin Sultan Military College in Al Ain in March 1988. Then he attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and graduated in 1989.

He received a master’s degree in political science from the University of Salford in July 1989.

Additionally, he holds two PhDs: one in international studies from the University of Limerick in November 1998 and the other from Nasser Military Academy in the Arab Republic of Egypt in April 1999.

Sultan was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel staff pilot in 1999 and then to the rank of colonel staff in February 2000.

He was the advisor to the president of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed, and the board chairman of the SBK Holding. In addition, he is a member of the UAE’s equestrian federation.

He is among the board members of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

His firm provides mediation between businesspeople, for instance, between Roman Abramovich and Boris Berezovsky in 2001.

He was born in the year 1965, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, making him 57 years in 2022.
