Taraji P Henson Slams ‘Guns Having More Rights Than Women In America’ At BET Awards After Roe V Wade Overturned

As she introduced the BET Awards 2022 on Sunday, Taraji P. Henson criticized “the idea that guns have more rights than a woman.”

As she opened the ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, the Empire actress spoke about the US Supreme Court’s recent overturning of the important Roe v Wade decision, which had previously protected the right to an abortion nationwide but will now permit individual states to enact their own laws on the subject.

The 51-year-old celebrity thanked Lizzo for her collaboration with Live Nation to donate $1 million (£815,000) to Planned Parenthood and organizations that support abortion rights in addition to opening the show with her hit song About Damn Time.

“Thank you to the amazing Lizzo, right? That’s how you start a show. All this body positivity up in here. And also thank you, Lizzo, for pledging $1million to Planned Parenthood. It’s about time I got that off my chest.”
