Tyla Secures Historic Grammy Win, Surpassing Davido, Ayra Starr, and More

South Africa’s emerging talent, Tyla, clinched her inaugural Grammy in the category of Best African Performance for her chart-topping track, ‘Water.’

The singer’s track, titled “Popiano,” seamlessly blends elements of pop music with amapiano, a subgenre within South African house music.

The song outshone other popular hits in the same category, including Nigerian artists Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ Asake’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ and Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush.’

The 22-year-old artist received the accolade during the Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

In a parallel achievement, rap queen Nicki Minaj secured her first Grammy award after numerous nominations.
