Whitley David Merrifield was born on 24 January 1989 in Florence, South Carolina.
He is an American professional baseball player. He plays as a second baseman and outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball. The Kansas City Royals are his former team.
Merrifield is a two-time All-Star. He attended Davie County High School in Mocksville, North Carolina, and went on to the University of South Carolina where he played college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Merrifield was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals on May 18, 2016.
