Thomas Partey Has A Small Injury Issue – Ghana Coach Chris Hughton Reveals

The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has revealed that he opted not to play Thomas Partey in the second leg of the AFCON qualifiers against Angola because he has a small injury issue.

Many Ghanaian football fans were taken aback when the squad list for the Black Stars game against Angola was released on Monday, 27 March and it was found that Thomas Partey was not part of the team.

When coach Chris Hughton spoke to the media after the game, he said he did not want to risk Partey because he has some injury concerns.

He said Thomas has a small injury issue and his team felt it was too big of a risk to start him.

In Thomas Partey’s absence, Daniel Amartey took in as the captain on the day. Although he conceded what many consider a soft penalty, Amarety led his charges to secure a crucial one-all draw against Angola to put Ghana top of Group E standings going into the next round of matches to play later in the year.

In that round, the Black Stars will face their counterparts from the Central African Republic and Madagascar.
