AFCON 2021: Asamoah Gyan Wishes Black Stars Luck Ahead Of Draw

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is hoping for favourable opponents for the Black Stars when the draw for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations is done on Tuesday.

Gyan, Ghana’s record top scorer with 51 goals, has landed in Yaoundé, Cameroon where the draw for the delayed tournament will be held.

“All I can say is I wish Ghana the best of luck in the draw. Ghana is a country of football, with many talents.

“We have a team of young people who play well in their clubs. It’s a rebuilding team with a new coach,” Gyan said.

Ghana who finished first ahead of Sudan and South Africa in their qualifying, join 23 other participating teams that will be divided into six groups of four.

Akonnor’s side, as a result of being ranked 7th in Africa by FIFA, have not been seeded and find itself in Pot 2 with record champions Egypt, two-time holders Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea.

The seeded teams host Cameroon are in Pot 1 with champions Algeria, 2019 finalists Senegal, three-time champions Nigeria and 1976 champions Morocco are in Pot 1.

This means Ghana will face any of the seeded teams at next year’s tournament.

Black Stars haven’t won the tournament since 1982.
