KGL foundation has signed an agreement to provide sponsorship for youth football in Ghana in the amount of one million dollars over the next five years.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, the day after that the Ghana Football Association and KGL unveiled a new sponsorship agreement at a media gathering.
In his excitement over the sponsorship deal, GFA President Kurt ES Okraku said the world that KGL has shown tremendous support for football across the country, beginning with their support of The Black Stars and now to the youth football.
“Am super-excited that today we are announcing an amazing relationship between the GFA and KGL. KGL foundation gives hope to the hopeless and improves the capacity of young people.
Today’s announcement offers amazing opportunities to our younger brothers who aspire to be big footballers in our country.”
The president of the GFA disclosed that the five-year sponsorship agreement will be able to see KGL injecting around USD 150,000 annually into Juvenile football.
He added that youth clubs across the nation will also receive 100 jerseys and 100 sets of bibs annually for the next five years.
The GFA President also reaffirmed the investments the Association has done over the years in rejuvenating the game of football for children across the nation.
“Colts football had not been played in Ghana for years but thankfully we brought it back and across all the 10 regions juvenile is being played.
The GFA invested about 100, 000 dollars into the development of football at the regional level in the purchase of football which are being used by juvenile clubs.
We also introduced the catch them young referees which is aimed at encouraging young persons with enormous passion for refereeing. So this year all our juvenile matches are officiated by kids.
“Beyond that we have reduced the burden on our colts clubs by scrapping the payment of referee fees.”
The GFA President has also said that the Association has introduced a new policy that requires every Premier League clubs to own U17 teams as a major step towards allowing junior clubs to play.
GPL and Dol teams are expected to sign 10 youngsters for their 40-man squads for this season.
He said that they are significant interventions in the program that the FA has implemented to boost the quality of youth football across the country.
The Director of the KGL Foundation Mr. Alex Dadey added that this was in conjunction of their recent financial support towards The Black Stars.
“We are happy to partner the GFA again after sponsoring the Black Stars. After that we spoke about helping to project the image of Ghana football.
This is inline with our corporate social responsibility as a company,” he added.
The guests at the event included chairman of Greater Accra Regional FA Samuel Aboabire and his Executives, as well as the renowned Colts Club owners Mr. Adikah and Broadway who attended as representatives from all Juvenile clubs across the country.
