Former Ghana International Prince Tagoe has counseled Jordan Ayew to modify his game and focus on scoring.
The 30-year-old has been the subject of massive criticism for his recent lack of goals for his country and club.
Jordan Ayew last scored for the Black Stars in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome from the penalty spot.
Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has also admitted his team’s situation. Ghana International loses confidence, as well as self-belief the face of goal.
He has not scored in his Premier League side in over 35 games.
Jordan Ayew failed to hit the back of the net as Jordan Ayew failed to score when the Black Stars engaged lower-tier side Soccer Intellectuals in a friendly on Wednesday at Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars scored 8-0, but Jordan Ayew was missing on the chart of goalscorers.
Prince Tagoe who played at the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the Black Stars said Jordan Ayew should focus on getting the ball inside the net.
He believes that his primary priority should be on playing the game and not trying to emulate an actor.
“I spoke to Jordan Ayew some years back and he took my advice and everybody knew what he did. He should have it in mind that if he doesn’t score in a game then he didn’t perform”, he told Happy FM.
“He should focus on scoring and not holding onto the ball for long. He shouldn’t drop deep but stay at the attacking areas and concentrate on scoring.”
Jordan will likely start his game with The Black Stars against Zimbabwe, but will play on wings, which is his usual spot in recent times.
The spokesperson for the Ayew brothers, Fiifi Tackie, has advised those who are criticizing Jordan Ayew to also focus on his contribution to the team, not just the goals.
“Jordan Ayew is more of a team player than an individual player”, he told Happy FM.
“He doesn’t see anything wrong if he tries to assist than to score. Assess Jordan Ayew by his contribution on the pitch it is why Patrick Vieira will continue to use him.”
Ayew is likely to be the leader in the match Ghana play Zimbabwe on Friday, in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on the 9th of October 2021.
