Ghana captain Andre Ayew on Friday, Ocbtober 22, won his first trophy in Qatar after he helped Al Sadd secure victory in the final of the Emir Cup.
Al Sadd needed penalties to claim the trophy for the 18th time against Al-Rayyan in the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.
Al Sadd won 5-4 in the shootout following Santi Carzola wiped out Yacine Brahimi’s lead to Al-Rayyan.
Ayew is in fantastic goalscoring form with the Qatari giants since the summer transfer was pulled out after the 80th minutes.
The forward was keen to score during the highly anticipated match and even came close several times.
Algerian Brahimi made sure that Al-Rayyan went into the halftime with their heads held high after scoring a penalty in the 44th minute.
But 13 minutes later, after the interval, Al Sadd were awarded their own penalty, and former Arsenal player Santi Carzola scored a brilliant goal to make it 1-1.
The two teams could not determine the winner, and the centre-back Shojae Khalilzadeh’s missed shootout being the difference. Al Sadd were crowned champions once more.
Ayew was extremely happy and was able to celebrate together with the rest of his colleagues. He is hoping to score more wins in Qatar due to his unexpected decision to quit Europe.
Five goals have been scored by him.
