Dolly Rebecca Parton is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, who is known primarily for her work in country music.
After having achieved success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I’m Dolly.
It was followed by success throughout the rest of the 1960s (both as solo artist and through the release of a couple of duet albums featuring Porter Wagoner), before her peak sales and chart position began in the 1970s, and continued through the 1980s.
Parton’s albums from the 1990s didn’t sell like her earlier albums, but she rediscovered commercial success after the turn of the millennium.
She released albums through various independent labels from 2000 onward, as well as Dolly Records, her label. She has sold more than 100 million records around the world.
